Plant Engineer
Working for Landmark Plastic, a leading manufacturer of plastic products used in the horticulture industry, the Plant Engineer is responsible to deal with managerial and operational tasks. This job involves reviewing operational plans, ensuring machinery and processes meet compliant regulations, and fixing any mechanical issues that arise with the equipment. This can be quite a physically demanding role, with long hours spent standing or crawling or crouching to fix equipment and machinery. This job is well suited to great problem-solvers who have strong mechanical skills and enjoy working as part of a team. Major Work Duties Essential Job Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions: Maintain Equipment: monitor and maintain plant equipment and machinery to ensure that it is running as it should be. Coordinate with Maintenance on mechanical issues with the equipment. Train Plant Personnel: Train and assist plant personnel in carrying out safety and quality control procedures so that everyone on the team is compliance with the appropriate regulations. They also deal with any administrative tasks that coincide with this training, such as completing reports or updating reports. Review Project Plans: Review project plans to ensure that timelines and blueprints are accurate and that cost estimates tie in with the budget. They also interpret developments along the way and provide advice and guidance for any necessary changes. Ensure the Facility Complies with Regulations: Responsible for ensuring the facility is compliant with relevant regulations and that regular check-ups are carried out to verify that machinery and processes are safe. Develop Operational Plans: Responsible for developing operational plans for projects at different facilities, such as renovation or construction, maintenance, and machine installation. Key Metrics: Responsible for both meeting and exceed KPI’s as defined by your Leader. Qualifications: Must be a team player with strong mechanical abilities and excellent diagnostic skills. Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering-related subject as well as the following abilities: Mechanical skills – plant engineers work with all machinery and any robotics used in the manufacturing process to check that they are working to peak efficiency and maximum safety, so mechanical skills are a must. Dexterity – plant engineers work with tools and machinery on a daily basis, so dexterity is vital to ensuring tasks are carried out safely and efficiently. Problem-solving skills – as mechanical issues arise, plant engineers need to identify ways to resolve them as quickly as possible, so problem-solving and troubleshooting skills are advantageous. Attention to detail – a key part of this job is to spot any problems with machinery and to identify processes that can be improved to benefit the organization and the safety of the team, so applicants for this job should be detail-oriented. Teamwork – plant engineers work closely with other members of the team, so it is important that they always have interpersonal skills and the ability to remain professional. Plant Engineer Education and Training The minimum requirement to become a plant engineer is a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical (or polymers), or industrial engineering. Prefer a post-baccalaureate education as well as on the job experience in middle management in a manufacturing environment. Supervisory Responsibility None at this time. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be subject to mfg. shop floor conditions. The employee is frequently required to sit or stand for long periods of time and walk distances, as well as stoop, bend, kneel and crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, reach or feel and manipulate objects or controls. Must be able to wear PPE and work in a manufacturing shop floor environment. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a salary, full-time position. Hours vary depending on production needs. Core days are Mon-Fri with Sat/Sun as needed during high production times. This is a 24-7 manufacturing facility and projects as well as meetings may require attendance or presence outside of normal 7am-5pm Mon-Fri. Growth/Succession This position may lead to future career roles such as Plant Manager, EH&S Mgr., and/or Operations Manager.
